Privacy Policy
Last updated: 29 October 2026
In short: SalahMotion has no account and builds no profile of you. The motion sensing that guides your prayer happens on your device. Your settings and prayer records sync through your own private iCloud, which we cannot read. Nothing is ever sent to us unless you deliberately turn it on.
This policy explains what information SalahMotion (“the app”, “we”) handles, where it goes, and the choices you have. It applies to the SalahMotion apps for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, published by xienta.
1. Processed on your device
The following are read and used entirely on your device to make the app work. They are not sent to us.
- Motion data. While you pray, the app reads motion from your Apple Watch or AirPods to recognise your postures (standing, rukūʿ, sujūd and so on) and guide you to the next step. This happens live, on the device.
- Location. With your permission, your location is used to calculate accurate local prayer times and to point you towards the Qibla. Location is requested only while you are using the app.
2. Apple services the app relies on
SalahMotion uses features built into your Apple device. Your use of them is also governed by Apple’s privacy policy.
- iCloud (your private account). Your settings, preferences and prayer records are stored in, and synced across your devices through, your own private iCloud. This is your Apple account — we have no access to it and cannot read its contents.
- Apple WeatherKit. To show the sky and weather behind your prayer times, the app may send your location to Apple’s weather service to retrieve current conditions. This is handled by Apple under its terms.
- Health (HealthKit). During a prayer, the app runs a workout session so motion tracking stays active. If — and only if — you turn on “Save prayers to Health”, each completed prayer is written to Apple Health as a Mind & Body workout with its start and end time. The app does not read your other health data.
3. Information you can choose to share with us
A few optional features can send limited information to our own private storage (Apple’s CloudKit, in an area only we can access). Every one of these is turned off by default and only ever active if you switch it on in Settings. None of them is tied to your name or your Apple account.
- Crash & reliability reports. If you turn on “Send crash reports”, the app may send diagnostic reports (from Apple’s MetricKit) when it crashes or hangs, so we can fix problems. These contain technical information about the failure, not your personal content.
- Contribute prayer data. If you turn on contribution, short, anonymised recordings of motion during prayer are sent to help us improve how accurately the app recognises postures. They carry no identity and no audio.
- Usage journeys. If enabled, anonymised information about how you move through the app’s screens helps us understand where it can be clearer.
4. What we do not do
- We do not ask you to create an account or sign in.
- We do not show advertising.
- We do not use third-party analytics, tracking or advertising SDKs.
- We do not sell or rent your information to anyone.
5. Permissions the app may ask for
- Location (while in use) — prayer times and Qibla direction.
- Motion & Fitness — to read motion from AirPods for hands-free posture detection.
- Bluetooth — so your Apple Watch and iPhone or iPad can share the postures detected on your wrist, and follow the prayer together.
- Health — to run the workout session that keeps tracking active, and, if you choose, to save completed prayers as workouts.
You can grant or withdraw any of these at any time in the iOS or watchOS Settings app.
6. Your choices & control
The optional sharing in section 3 is controlled by toggles in the app’s Settings, and is off until you enable it. You can turn any of it back off at any time. You can revoke Location, Motion, Bluetooth or Health access from your device’s Settings. Data held in your own iCloud is managed through your Apple account.
7. Children
SalahMotion is a prayer companion for a general audience. It does not knowingly collect personal information from children, and it requires no account or personal details to use.
8. Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and the “last updated” date above.
